Hello, and welcome to MeowTown.

Have ever had a hard day melt away the moment a cat curled up in your lap? Then you already understand what we're building here in McLean, Virginia. MeowTown is a
cat lounge — a warm, home-like space where you can slow down, breathe, and spend unhurried time with cats who are looking for their forever homes. But we're also something a little different from a typical lounge, and we wanted our very first post to tell you why.

A mission that started close to home
MeowTown began with a question every parent of a child with special needs eventually asks: what happens next? Inspired by the experiences and challenges of our founder's 27-year-old daughter, we set out to create a place built around opportunity — not just for cats, but for people. We became a nonprofit with a dual mission: to find permanent homes for rescue cats, and to create meaningful employment for individuals with special needs.
Those two goals turned out to belong together beautifully.

Where cats can shine
Shelters do heroic work, but a cage is a hard place for a cat to show who they really are. The shy ones hide. The playful ones get overlooked. At MeowTown, cats live in a comfortable, livingroom-style setting where their real personalities come out — the lap cat who wants to be held, the goofball who chases a feather toy across the room, the quiet senior who just wants a sunbeam and some company. When you can see a cat being themselves, it's far easier to imagine them being part of your family. That's how lasting matches are made.
Where people belong
MeowTown is also a workplace where neurodiverse individuals are valued as employees and embraced as part of a vibrant community. Meaningful work, companionship, and purpose come together here every day. We've found what so many inclusive workplaces discover: when you welcome people with differences, everyone is enriched — staff, visitors, and yes, the cats too.

The quiet power of a purr
There's real science behind the comfort you feel at MeowTown. Time with animals can lower stress, ease loneliness, and boost mental wellbeing, and the simple act of petting a cat can settle a racing mind. When you visit, you can put your phone down, let your shoulders drop, and let a purring companion do what cats do best. Some guests come to explore adoption. Others come simply to unwind. Both are exactly right.
What you can do here
Book a 50-minute Cat Lounge Visit and meet the residents. Bring the family — we even run a weekly Kids Craft Club. Become a member if you find yourself wanting more kitty time. Host a private event. Or support the mission with a donation or by spreading the word. However you join in, your visit helps a cat find a home and helps sustain a workplace where people thrive.
